NEW LONDON -- Carl Francis Fitz Jr., 68. died Aug. 2, 2010, near his home on Pleasant Lake.
He was born July 28, 1942, in Hackensack, N.J., to Carl and Helen (Russell) Fitz.
He was the co-founder of Fitz, Vogt and Associates, a food service management company that began operations in March 1977 in Brattleboro, Vt., with Carl as president and co-founder Roy Vogt as secretary-treasurer.
In 1989, he purchased Vogt's shares of FitzVogt and it grew to more than 150 client locations throughout New England and the Mid-Atlantic Region. He retired in 2006 after a long and successful career building one of the top food service management companies in the nation.
IN HIS LIFE: Carl enjoyed his retirement, traveling with his wife to Europe and to their winter home in Bonita Springs, Fla. In addition, he enjoyed golf, time on the lake, entertaining family and friends and taking his morning walk with his dog, Angel, before riding his motorcycle into town for his daily coffee and meeting with friends.
He was a member of The First Baptist Church of New London.
He was the husband of Patricia (Prior) Fitz, with whom he shared 46 years of marriage. Besides his wife, survivors include two sons, Carl Fitz III and his wife, Colleen, of Newport, Vt., and Jason Fitz and his wife, Katarina, of New York City. He was pre-deceased by a daughter, Elizabeth, in 1991. He had two grandsons, Ben Scialdone of Clifton Park, N.Y., and Carl Fitz IV of Newport, Vt.; one brother and a sister-in-law, Gary and Ann Fitz of Litchfield; one sister and a brother-in-law, Patricia and Doyle L. Reagin of Pensacola, Fla.; nephews Greg and Eric Fitz of Litchfield and Dana and Dean Reagin of Pensacola, Fla.
SERVICES: There will be no calling hours. The funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at The First Baptist Church of New London. Burial will be in Walpole Cemetery, Walpole.
